Coronavirus Alert

If you have any flu-like symptoms such as a fever, cough, shortness of breath or a sore throat, please call us on (03) 8579 6838 before coming to the clinic.

Please don’t make an appointment online.

Fees and Payments

Doctors of South Melbourne is a private billing practice. Our out of pocket fees* for Medicare cardholders are the same for both long appointments (30 minutes) and standard appointments (15 minutes):

  • Monday – Friday (8.30 am – 5.30 pm): $51.00 out of pocket
  • Monday – Friday (after 5.30 pm) and all Saturday: $61.00 out of pocket

Extra charges only apply for services such as minor surgical procedures and travel vaccinations. These charges are at or below the Australian Medical Association recommendations.

Fees for all appointments and services are payable after each consult. We accept Visa, MasterCard and debit cards. We don’t accept cash.

At the time of your payment, your Medicare rebate will be credited to either your debit card or the bank account you’ve registered with Medicare.

Additional Fees

During the coronavirus pandemic, the following fees apply.

Telephone Consults (payable by credit card over the phone):

  • Monday – Friday (8.30 am – 5.30 pm): $51.00 out of pocket
  • Monday – Friday (after 5.30 pm) and all Saturday: $61.00 out of pocket

In-Person Isolation Consults:

Anyone with flu-like symptoms needs to be seen in an isolated room with the GP in full personal protective gear. We’re required to sanitise the room after each consultation.

  • $76.05 out of pocket + $40 sanitising fee

Sanitising Fee:

This fee applies to anyone who arrives unannounced to the clinic with flu-like symptoms or has misrepresented their symptoms to us during phone or online screening questions.

  • $100

* the ‘out of pocket fee’ is the cost to you – less your Medicare rebate.

Appointment Types

We recommend patients with more involved medical needs book a 30-minute long appointment. This includes people requiring a cervical screening test, multiple travel vaccinations or mental health discussions.

Regular patients with more straightforward needs can book a 15-minute standard appointment.

Please contact us on 8579 6838 if you’re unclear how much time you may need with a GP.

Special Fees

There are no out of pocket fees for Veterans Affairs patients if they hold a gold card or white card with a DVA pre-approved existing condition.

Patients without Medicare cards are most welcome, including international students and travellers. Please speak with our staff about fees.

We charge TAC or WorkSafe consultations at the full fee, payable by the patient after each appointment. We recommend patients take the receipt to their insurance provider for full or partial reimbursement – dependent on the provider’s policy terms.

Health Care and concession card holders are charged at standard rates.

New Patients

We’d be delighted to have you as a patient. See what all the fuss is about and join the many locals who benefit from first-rate healthcare.

We recommend you start with a 30-minute appointment to talk through your medical history and background (your out-of-pocket cost will be the same as for a 15-minute appointment).

Please try to arrive five minutes early to complete a New Patient Registration Form. Alternatively, you can complete and submit the form online before you come in. Don’t forget to bring your photo ID and Medicare card to your first visit.

If you’d like your old medical records forwarded to Doctors of South Melbourne, you can fill out this form and send to your previous clinic.

Patient Results

Test results, including from blood tests, x-rays and scans, are typically returned to us within 2-3 days of being taken.

In most cases, you’ll need to book an appointment to talk through the results. This way, we can ensure a consistently high level of care.

In some situations, your GP will send you an SMS if the results are normal – please speak to them about this option.

Cancellations

We understand that you may need to cancel an appointment occasionally – it’s just the way it is.

If you need to make a cancellation, please contact us at least two hours before your appointment time. This will allow patients on the wait-list a chance to be treated.

You may be charged a fee if you cancel with less than two hours notice or don’t show up at all.
