With the new school year about to start, we’d like to remind parents and carers about kids’ asthma.
Asthma presentations peak around the start of February. Environmental triggers such as dust and pollen, or common colds and the flu, can cause flare-ups at school.
Here are some tips to reduce the chance and severity of flare-ups:
- Review your child’s asthma and hay fever medications with your GP or specialist.
- Minimise their time around environmental triggers. Exposure to common colds and the flu at school can also cause flare-ups.
- Have an up-to-date asthma action plan (and follow it). Give the kid’s school a copy.
- Make sure your child always has their reliever puffer with them.
