The ‘2019-nCoV’ strain of the coronavirus has so far contributed to hundreds of deaths in China. It originated in Wuhan in the country’s Hubei province.
Coronaviruses are found in animals and people. Human coronaviruses are very common throughout the world – most people will get infected at some stage of their lives without even knowing it. In saying this, the 2019-nCoV strain appears to be particularly nasty.
The risk of contracting the virus in Australia is very slim indeed. Only four cases have been confirmed in Victoria – none have been fatal.
