As GPs, we’re often asked how long kids should stay home from school or childcare during a spell of ill health. The answer to this question depends on how infectious a particular condition is, and how best to limit it spreading to other children and staff.

Have a look at this handy list of ‘exclusion’ periods for a wide range of common childhood conditions. It outlines how long an infected child should remain at home, as well as certain people who should avoid contact with an infected child – such as pregnant women and the immuno-compromised.
